A western collection institution beat Chinese buyers on the Christie's
Paris Auction on Nov. 22, biding 5.4 million Euros for a five-meter long
royal picture scroll of the Qing Dynasty (1616-1911AD) named "victory
banquet in west garden." Experts deem it a national treasure which was
lost during the Eight-Power Allied Forces' loot in Beijing in the early
20th century. Pictured: part of the painting depicting Qianlong Emperor
(1711-1799AD) under the marquee.
