The Shanshan County of Xinjiang made full use of advantages from local
natural resources in recent years, turning the Kumu Tage Desert (Sand
Mountain) near the county into a national tourist resort. While putting
great efforts in tourism, the county brought along benefits for farmers
around this area and relevant industries. The desert is a national
sight-seeing destination with an area of 1,880 square km, which is the
only big desert in the world abutting on a city.
