2000-year-old sculpture in Lianyungang

On Oct. 30, archaeologists were observing the fine lines of the stone
elephant. At Kongwang Mountain Scenic Spot of Jiangsu's Lianyungang
stands a huge stone elephant sculptured in the Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD).
The stone elephant was made of one rock. It is 2.6 meters in height and
4.8 meters in length. Lianyungang's cultural relic authority confirmed
that on the left hind foot of the stone elephant inscribed "Yongping
Fourth Year" (61AD). This discovery dates the time of stone sculptures on
the mountain back to 61AD.
